Mackintosh, Mabel - Betty's Bridesmaids, or, For Want of a Word. John F. Shaw, not dated, inscribed 1919, reprint. Note: Originally published with the title 'For want of a word'. This new edition does not include the plates, but retains the original pagination. As a result there are no leaves for pp. 17-18; 42-43 [actually 41-42]; 68-69 [actually 69-70]; 93-94 and 131-132. The text is complete. (British Library). 160pp aprox. plus 6pp Shaw list, blue buckram, decorative blocking on front-board and spine, hardback. Illustrated with a colour frontispiece only (see above). Water damage (boards slightly mis-shapen, board edges 'patchy', frontispiece stained round all outer margins but little other internal evidence (it appears that the coating on the frontispiece paper did not dry out very well whereas the normal paper did); appears to lack 5 pages but see note above (the text IS complete and as issued in this edition); edge-wear; corners rounded; prize-inscription on front-free endpaper; slight page-edge browning; good, no wrapper.
