Gainham, Sarah: Takeover Bid.

Gainham, Sarah - Takeover Bid. Literary Guild, 1970. ... studies the disintegration of a brilliant and dynamic business cheif, Leslie. Already deeply disillusioned and heavily dependent on drink and drugs, he is brought to total ruin - for his business, marriage and very existance - by a momentary meeting with a gamine junior clerk of his Burssels office. His relationship with this unknown waif-like girl Sidney affects the whole community -the Irish manager Donovan, the icily efficient lawer Creech, the sinister Swiss psychiatrist, the great man's personal staff. Through Sidney, Leslie finds in hemself for the first trime in his life impulses which overwhelm asnd nilify the ambition which once was the impetus behind his whole being. Her power over him leads uncompromisingly and inevitably to a chain of events which culminate in a takeover bid - or rather forcible business rape - that shocks and compels us right up to the lat page. What, we are led to ask, is raped, and by whom? An who really pays? (Wrapper flap). 8" x 5¼", 192pp, greyish-red cloth, hardback. Slight edge-foxing, top-edge slightly 'dusty', very good, complete with good (¾" tear at head of spine/front panel, slight edge-wear, slightly sunned spine) wrapper.
