The first English translation of Freile's 'El Carnero', based on a collation of the various Spanish texts. A free version, it omits five lengthy 'catalogues' - of conquistadores etc - some garbled history of the Indians before the coming of the Spaniard', and a good deal of moralizing. The binding design is based on that of a Spanish royal binding. (Folio Society). 9" x 5½", 228pp, dark green buckram with an elaborate design over the front panel and spine blocked in gold, red blocked title-panel, gold spine lettering, hardback. Index. Printed on laid paper. Illustrated with 7 monochrome drawings by Harold Bennett, as plates. Slightly sunned spine (as usual); fine, complete with very good (very slight sunning, very slight wear) sound, slip-case.
